SUMMER 2022 - Truckin' On

This is our first newsletter of the year, so Welcome to 2022.

Everywhere I look there are bikes on the back of cars, on their way to somewhere. It’s fantastic to see young ones honing their skills around town and families getting out on two wheels at Waitangi. Kerikeri Primary have got the biking bug and have just installed a pretty awesome little pump track – new MTB riders coming our way!

A bunch of new names have popped up on the membership list. If you are new to the club, please make yourself at home. You are welcome on any group rides, help yourself to our Inlet Road tracks and come along on a Tuesday night. If you've been around for a while, please look out for the new guys and invite them on your weekend missions.

The people from Summit Forests have been to check out what’s been going on at Whitehills and have given us the big thumbs up to keep developing this area. We couldn't do it without the awesome help of our support crew. Fire is the biggest hazard so we’d like to keep vehicles and driving to a minimum. Park and Ride.

Saying that we are all loving the odd shuttle up the hill on a Tuesday night. The club is working hard to make shuttles a regular thing and are planning for some big weekend days in the near future.

Remember, it’s your club …. If you’ve got an idea for a new group ride, would love to organise a Weekend Epic, have ideas or contacts that might be useful, would love to spend a few hours moving dirt or just want to make a helpful suggestion, please get in touch.

Northland Secondary Schools Competition

Kerikeri Mountain Bike Club is hosting the Northland Secondary Schools competition at Waitangi Mountain Bike Park on Friday 4 March and we are going to need a few people to give us a hand. There will not be room for spectators, so volunteering is an awesome way to be part of the action and see our young riders show their stuff.

We will need about 10 people. The whole day would be awesome but part of a day could work as well.

A couple of people to look after the registrations on the day

Marshals and timers for the cross country

Timers for top and bottom of Enduro runs - all you will need is a phone.

Some help with general set-up and pack up

Perhaps photos are your thing?

We imagine there will be between 50 and 80 students competing, so volunteers and helpers are going to need a vaccine pass and to follow some health and safety guidelines.

Summer Riding Continues

Tuesday Rides

Continue to alternate between Inlet Road, leaving from the club car park and Whitehillsmeeting at the gate, both get going at 5.30

Under 16s need to be with a parent or adult who has agreed to be responsible for them. Keep an eye on Facebook for updates and last-minute changes.

Inlet Road Update

The tracks at Inlet Road are at their best in the summer…. and for some of our favourites … this will be their last summer. Harvest is due to start again some time in March, only a few away, so get out and enjoy them while you can! You don’t need to wait for a club ride and as long as you look out for the occasional vehicle you can enjoy them 7 days a week.  You might find some changes to the carpark in the coming weeks, but your key should still work.

Truckin' On

You’ve probably heard by now…. We’ve got ourselves a little truck to tow our shuttle trailer.

Martin spotted an opportunity, donations were offered and accepted and it became ours. It’s having a wee makeover then it will be good to go.  Huge thanks to the Ray Family, Northland Valuers, Prime Plumbing, Waipapa Glass and Hunter Cycles for their generosity. There will be a bit of advertising space on the truck. If you’d like to help the club and help your business …… get in touch!!

Shuttle Days coming to Whitehills soon.
