Kerikeri MTB Club Newsletter March 2017

  1. Track Working Bee – Saturday 25 March - 09:30 Somerfields Carpark

Waitangi Forest Gate 1 Inlet Road

  • Realign “Wasnt Me” track exit onto Wairoa Road = safety
  • Clear Coronary Bypass undergrowth

Bring spades, grubbers / mattocks , slashers / machetes......

  1. Ride Schedule

Attendance on club monthly rides has been disappointing in recent months and we are revaluating the demand for these.  Little interest has been shown in the proposed March visit to Whangarei Bike Parks so:

Sat 25 March trip = Cancelled

HOWEVER

A group of members is riding the Waitangi Bike Park tracks

EVERY SUNDAY – leaving Wairoa Bay car park at 3pm

If you would like to ride with others on a Sunday - turnup.

And of course

Tuesday evening rides are on every week from the gravel pit carpark on Inlet Road starting at 5:30pm.  Over 20 have been turning up regularly over summer.  ALL welcome.

Lights necessary after daylight saving finishes

April 8/9         Far North Saga – 2 day ride

This a stunningly scenic ride – mostly on tracks – not a lot of beach riding

Riders need to be fit enough to ride 20 – 25km of tracks each day with some decent hills along the way.  A few steep / technical bits but all are short and easily walked = suitable for all club riders

Plan is:

Drive up to Spirits Bay Saturday morning and ride Spirits Bay – Pandora – Tapotupotu.  Camp for the night.

Sunday – Tapotupotu – Cape Reinga – Cape Maria Van Diemen -Twilight Bch – Te Paki Stream – drive home

Around 15 people have registered interest – so should be a good weekend

There are some significant logistics to arrange for this trip.

Plan is to meet Tuesday 4 April 7:30pm at Rocksalt after club ride and finalise details.  Weather forecast and other details should all be clear by then

Thanks to Max from Coopers Beach for researching / pioneering the route.....
